SIMPLE INSTALLATION

HOW TO INSTALL A THROTTLE RESPONSE CONTROLLER

Pedal Commander® and FN Tuned throttle response controllers are completely plug-and-play modules. They both have the same installation procedure, and it takes under 15 minutes in most applications. The installation is a simple process with a couple of steps.

TURN OFF YOUR VEHICLE

Turn the ignition off. Keep the keyfob 35 ft. away to let the electrical system and the ECU shut off completely.

UNPLUG & PLUG IN

Disconnect the factory gas pedal harness and plug in the Pedal Commander® or FN Tuned harness. Make sure you hear a “click” sound on both ends for a secure connection.

MOUNT THE MODULE

Secure the excess cabling. Mount the FN Tuned module in the footwell area, or if you have the Pedal Commander®, mount the controller on or under the dashboard.

Security Feature

IMPROVED VEHICLE SECURITY WITH ANTI-THEFT

One of the many distinguishing features of the Pedal Commander® and the FN Tuned throttle response controllers is that both units come with a built-in Anti-Theft feature.

Subscribe to the service through the Pedal Commander® or FN Tuned mobile app.
Disable the gas pedal with a single tap to improve your vehicle’s security*.
Stay confident when you have to leave your vehicle unattended.

Anti-Theft is free to try for the first 14 days. Then the subscription costs $0.99 a month, or $9.99 a year.

DISCLAIMER: The anti-theft mode is an extra security measure and does not guarantee a complete prevention of vehicle theft.

Common Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ABOUT THROTTLE RESPONSE CONTROLLERS

How does a throttle response controller work?

A throttle response controller sits between your accelerator pedal sensor and the car’s ECU. It tweaks the pedal signal so the ECU opens the throttle faster and with a different curve. It does not reflash the engine computer, it only changes the pedal-input-to-throttle-valve mapping only.

Will a throttle response controller actually reduce throttle lag?

Yes. By changing the pedal signal, these devices remove or reduce the delay you feel when the car hesitates after you press the pedal. That makes merging, passing, and low-speed control feel much sharper.

Will installing one void my vehicle warranty?

Not automatically. In the U.S., manufacturers must show an aftermarket part caused a failure before denying a warranty claim under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. A good quality plug-in controller alone isn’t enough reason to void coverage.

Is installation difficult?

No. Most throttle response controller units are plug-and-play. They plug into the factory pedal harness. Typical installs take less than half an hour and do not require cutting or splicing of any wires.

Can a throttle response controller harm my engine or turbo?

Signal-only controllers do not change fuel maps or boost targets. That keeps them low risk when used properly. Problems happen when people use aggressive settings beyond safe driving habits, or when a device is poorly made. Use a quality unit to avoid any headache.

Will it improve my fuel economy?

Some throttle response controllers have a dedicated mode for fuel economy that deliberately reduces the throttle sensitivity. Smoother, more predictable throttle control can reduce wasted revs and over-throttle in daily driving, which may lead to small fuel savings. When correct driving style are paired with a dedicated fuel economy mode, you can see some savings in fuel consumption.

Are throttle response controllers street legal?

Generally yes. Because they only alter pedal input signals and do not change emissions equipment, they are usually legal for normal road use. Laws vary by country and state, so check local rules if you have doubts. A good rule of thumb is, if a throttle response controller is CARB-compliant, it is 50-state-legal.
